August month is the most important month of the year in South Africa. A celebration of women’s presents and their empowerment.
We look at few women in our society who inspire and have made a significant impact both in their own lives those of the people around them. We look closely at Faith Diketane, a professional women who lead from the front.
Being born and raised in Tembisa, Faith Diketane developed an interest and passion in sketching and drawing from an early age after a close family friend who engaged in construction projects for highrise buildings and highway bridges invited her to site visits where she would see 2D drawings transform into a 3-dimension structure.
Giving a tribute to her father for grooming her interests and passion, Faith explains her father’s support contributed enormously on her career path. Her fascination made it easier for her in choosing a field of study, thus she enrolled for a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the Wits University.
Over the years, Faith has been drawn to the engineering industry due to the amount of diversity that lies within. She sees the industry filled with vast opportunities to gain experience and grow.
The engineering industry spikes interest to want to learn more and be the best as engineering techniques for problem solving are evolving tremendously.
Faith started her career as a project administrator and gained trust from her managers to run with structural designs and to conduct structural investigations. Currently as a Project Engineer for Civil projects at Leoka Engineering, Faith has grown so much from being the project engineer for various projects, developing high-level technical reports, to drawing and participating in drawing tenders. Leoka has exposed her to projects from tender stage and continues to expose her in the construction phase of projects through to the project handover stage.
Faith continues to strive to bring a unique and distinctive quality of designs, construction, and project management processes, which meet the needs of the different clients she serves.
Let us celebrate the few success stories of women around us and empower those who still making in roads in this competitive business world.
