2. What does mental health awareness mean to you?

To me it means bringing to the attention of people around us and with whom we stay that indeed there are many things negative and positive that affect our mental health in our daily lives. In most cases it’s the negative issues that may severely affect each and every one  of us. These things may be  social, psychological or even emotional and they know no boundaries as to whom they affect and it matters not whether one is rich or poor or the class one is in society.

3. How do you maintain your calm when working on demanding projects?

I make sure that when I am home I engage with family or loved ones in things that completely take my mind off work related thoughts and issues eg: playing with family, taking a walk with family, talking to family, laughing and engaging in health debates and discussions.

4. What avenues have you explored to grow your awareness on mental health?

Reading about such issues or taking time to listen to someone going through such stresses in life and having compassion for them. On my side I have taken steps like, having enough sleep, staying positive and humble, connecting with others and staying physically active and not to brood over or let my mind concentrate on things that give me stress by listening to inspirational speakers, preachers or music that consoles my inner being.

5. Have you ever experienced a mental breakdown due to work pressure?

Yes

6. How were you able to learn from that experience?

This is something not so easy to deal with and in some cases the stresses and pressures can be quite strong.
I have learnt that I need to be proactive in some cases to eliminate impending situations that I know can be coming my way soon. I have learnt to have one person I can confide in and someone who can help me out in what I am worried about.

2. What does mental health awareness mean to you?

To me mental health means how you are feeling psychogically at work and in life in general…how is your state of mind and how do you cope with situations around you and can you ask for help if you need it.

3. How do you maintain your calm when working on demanding projects?

I get up from my desk and take a walk or have a cigarette.

4. What avenues have you explored to grow your awareness on mental health ?

I have been for psychotherapy.

5. Have you ever experienced a mental breakdown due to work pressure?

No, not that I’m aware of.

6. How were you able to learn from that experience?

Psychotherapy guides you on how to develop coping mechanisms and use them.

2. What does mental health awareness mean to you?

Mental health awareness for me is realising or recognising my mental wellbeing or rather being aware of my feelings in order to heal myself

3. How do you maintain your calm when working on demanding projects?

Personally, I’ve recently created a morning routine where I just sit and read something before starting my day. I use this moment to plan my day and it helps me to ease into the day as well as to keep my focus in order to achieve those daily goals without feeling overwhelmed. Secondly, staying positive gives me a boost to be productive on those demanding days. Believe me when I say it hasn’t been an easy journey.

4. What avenues have you explored to grow your awareness on mental health?

  • I’ve consumed on free content created by therapist on social media platforms.
  • Practised taking care of my mental well being by journaling.
  • Putting my thoughts and feelings on paper just so that I’m aware of what I’m going through.

Which policy would you apply to ensure that workers in your industry have their mental well-being taken care of?

It is important to think about employee wellness and the role it plays on LEOKA’s sustainability. A correctly designed wellness program can increase productivity, boost moral and reduce stress. It is for this reason that to promote an inclusive, diverse, and engaged workforce, one of our strategic activities is to develop an Employee Wellness program to assist our employees to make smart and healthy choices that can reduce health care costs, increase vitality and diminish absenteeism.
